As Told Over Brunch

Where to Brunch in Richmond with a Patio

It's patio-sitting season! I hate math, but here's an introductory equation that sums up this blog post: brunch + patio = perfect weekend plan. Let's make this easy on us all.

These are brunch places with a patio in Richmond

In no particular order...

23rd and Main

I am really fond of the brunch at 23rd and Main, especially because I dined outside. They have a great patio in between buildings. It was like a little oasis in the middle of the city. And after rereading my previous review about a fried burrito, I'm ready to head to their patio right now.

Postbellum

We're only on my second suggestion, and I'm already bending the rules. Postbellum isn't just a patio, it's a damn rooftop. Hell yeah! Cazey and I ate at Postbellum for Richmond Brunch Weekend, and the only thing that could have made it better was if we did it on the patio (brunch -- get your head out of the gutters).

Boathouse (all locations)

When I think of Boathouse, I think of their Rockett's Landing location since it's closest to me. They've got a beautiful porch that overlooks the water. However, Sunday Park is absolutely dynamite. It's a drive from the city, but totally worth it. Plus, each location has a slightly different specialty, so there's no reason you can't try them all. Pictured right are crushes at Sunday Park, which are essential for brunch on a patio.

Baker's Crust

Weirdly enough, I live in Richmond but have only been to brunch at Baker's Crust in Williamsburg, twice. I had a sweet potato biscuit with friend chicken on it, and it was amazing. I have done zero research, but if they have that in Richmond, eating it on a patio would be magical.

The Daily Kitchen and Bar

The Daily has a patio, plus big umbrellas. They don't let dogs though, so if you want to brunch with your pup, take them to Italian 10 or Sine. However, if you want something light for when it's hot out, The Daily brunch is for you.

Sine

Two points about brunch at Sine: Dollar mimosas and they allow dogs. I was shocked at how empty they were the last time I went based solely on those two factors. They did say they were going to take their corned beef hash off the menu though, so maybe that was it...

10 Italian Cafe

It's a stretch calling this a brunch option with a patio, but 10 Italian Cafe serves a few egg dishes and sandwiches that can be served on a bagel, so it passes my test. Plus, it's in Carytown, which is totes adorbs AND within walking distance of my house.

F.W. Sullivan's

I've only been to the Sullivan's in the Fan for brunch, and they have a patio and brunch, which is all the making of a brunch on a patio.

Cary St. Cafe

What I liked best about brunch on Cary St. Cafe's patio is that they had shelter. My fair skin burns almost instantly in the sun, so the overhang is pretty clutch. Plus, they had really -- almost shockingly (because when I think of Cary St. Cafe, I think of the time I tried trading in a beer because it tasted weird to me in a drunken state) -- good food.

Home Team

I don't rave about Home Team's brunch, but they have brunch and a patio. And they're in Richmond, so they're on the list.

Southern Railway Taphouse

I have yet to personally brunch at Southern Railway, but I hear great things. I can personally recommend that patio, though. It overlooks one of my favorite tourist attractions in the city, the Canal Cruise. Plus, they've got a ton of beers on tap for when it starts to get hot on the patio.

Helen's

Rule #1 about Helen's brunch: get there right when it opens to avoid a huge wait. Pro tip: make sure your entire party is with you, or else you have to stand like a loner at the front until a hostess thinks you're so awkward they let you sit down anyway. They have like two-ish tables outside, so don't count on it, but they have a brunch-able patio!

The Camel

What doesn't The Camel have for brunch!? They've got good food, affordable mimosa pitchers, live brunch bands and a patio! The patio is on Broad Street, so it's not the most quaint location, but it exists and works when you need your brunch on a patio fix.

The Savory Grain

Savory Grain also has music some brunches, good food, drinks and a patio! I was thinking about copy-and-pasting my description from The Camel here, but that's even weaker than my current work on Savory Grain. Try their Krispie Kreme french toast. It's diabetically delicious.

If you don't like any of those options of where to brunch in Richmond with a patio, these are some options with huge windows to settle on.

Pearl Raw Bar

Honestly, Pearl is the first place I reviewed on this blog, and I don't think I've ever been back. The food was good, and it was the first place I ordered a Bloody Mary. #Memories. If you want to be outside without being outside, Pearl has a huge garage window that they roll up to give you the breeze without the sun.

Max's on Broad

I am obsessed with Max's on Broad. I rolled 17 deep on Richmond Brunch Weekend, and Max's on Broad provided us all with customized, fast service. I was absolutely blown away with our waiter (and he was foxy, IDK if I should really say that, but it's typed already, so I'll leave it). Plus the food was excellent. I split savory and sweet with my friend, and both options are delightful. Oh, and if you didn't guess from their inclusion on the list, they have big windows.

On the Rox

When people ask me where to brunch in Richmond, On the Rox is my suggestion for a low-key, not busy boozefest. They have huge pitchers of mimosas, good food and service that will encourage you to stick around for awhile. Plus, the big windows give you the feeling of eating on the street without having to eat out on the street.

3 Monkeys

I struggled with where to place 3 Monkeys. It's kind of outside, but kind of just big windows. Either way, they have a screened in porch (?) where you can enjoy brunch. 3 Monkeys is a classic for me, where I always know I can go and grab a good brunch. Plus, the patio/screen in porch/ sun room is perfect for those days you get too drunk to function mid-day. #Classic

Star-Lite

Same dealio as above. It has a room with windows that might be a sunroom. When people ask Cazey where his favorite brunch is, this is his answer.

Phew. That was a ton of typing and I have yet to turn my air conditioning on because I'm a cheap-ass (a Twitter friend of mine said he'd start a GoFundMe for my air conditioning fund, but never followed through), so I'm kinda sweating. See you out on the patios this spring and summer!

If I'm forgotten any crucial places to brunch with a patio in Richmond, tweet it at me and I'll add it to the list: @SaraWoznicki. Or just write it in the comments, that may be easier.
