Coffee and a Conversation
As Told Over Brunch is a home for intelligent discourse from the twenty-something perspective - so the stuff you gossip about over mimosas on Sunday morning or over takeout on your friend's couch when happy hour ends too early. We love chatting about our lives, whether it be the relationships we’re building (or destroying), lessons we've learned at work, struggles at school, growing pains we've felt, or even the food we’re talking over.
I already hate myself for this idea. But it really fascinates me. Learning y'all, it's awesome.
I read an article on Time a few days ago, which stated that we are scientifically worse at picking pictures of ourselves for our social media pages than strangers are. While not all of you are strangers, apparently you already are going to pick better pictures of me than me.
Weird, right? But maybe not actually surprising, as seen in real life examples...
Read MoreLast week I had a meeting downtown at the VCU-MCV Hospital. Knowing parking is an issue down there, I left my apartment 40 minutes early. Okay, that's a lie. I left 30 minutes early, but still with enough time to go two miles and be at my meeting. You may remember I've had parking issues downtown before, but this time I figured I'd park at my usual place and walk a half mile to the hospital or, worse, in the hospital parking lot.
Of course, I remember my usual place is street parking, which is limited to two hours, and I have class after my meeting, so I need three hour parking. I decide to park in the public lot. So I park. It's 1:14. I have 16 minutes to walk half a mile and up three flights of stairs to my meeting. I walk over to the device to pay for parking. I click I'll be there for three hours. The machine asks for me $14.

For a long while, travel was my passion, my pursuit, my life dream. From my grounded, stateside, never-been-on-a-plane, never-seen-the-Alps, never-seen-the-Pyramids, never-seen-Canada perspective, travel was adventure, it was purpose, and it was fulfillment. Nothing else would really matter if I could stand on a savannah, dip my toes in another ocean, hike the Italian countryside, or watch the sun set on the other side of the globe.

There are countless people to thank, restaurants to applaud and sponsors to appreciate after this weekend. So many people pitched into to make the second annual Richmond Brunch Weekend successful, from the fantastic co-chairs (shout-out to Cazey and Leanne) to volunteers and beyond. But after seeing the turnout this weekend, it's easy to say: it's been worth it.
While we all might be sighing a breath of relief that everything went off without a hitch, we're also left idle.
So what now that brunch weekend is over?

Read MoreA few weekends ago, I was supposed to attend a conference with a group of classmates. For the semester we had been working on a project for a local nonprofit, and we were to present our project at the conference and get a consultation on implementing our project in the real world.
Due to other obligations, I couldn’t make the conference, but I agreed to FaceTime into the meeting when we met with the consultant. So at 3 PM on a Saturday, my friend FaceTimed me. “Katie” propped up her iPad so that I could see only her, but hear everyone.
We started with introductions and then moved to our project. Since I had spearheaded a lot of it, my classmates asked me to lead the introduction. I asked Katie to pull up our PowerPoint on her laptop, which she did.
