As Told Over North End Juice Co. Brunch
I live in a cool spot in Richmond, but my biggest gripe is the lack of food in the Museum District. There’s Black Hand, Belmont Pizza, Akida Sushi and a few other bars, but nothing like the density of the Fan. And there’s not a ton of brunch.
But there is North End Juice Co.
While it might not be brunch in the conventional sense, it’s an awesome spot to grab some mid-morning food. I’ve been a few times, trying out a smoothie (the peanut butter banana one of course) and a poke bowl. The girls I work out with sometimes like to brunch after we work out on the weekends, and one particular weekend we were feeling rather healthy, so we decided to split a few things at North End Juice Co.
If you know me, you know meal splitting is a way to my heart, ESPECIALLY when someone else does the ordering — and does a good job at it. My one friend wanted the burrito and the other recommended the avocado toast and an acai bowl, so all I did was loiter by the table until I could snatch it up.
Not only did we get one of the few tables, but we also managed to get three chairs. It was the perfect day to sit outside, where it was warm enough to enjoy the weather but not sweaty. Before the food even came out, I was having an amazing time.
We were perched right on the Richmond sidewalk on a perfect day in a central location where everyone brought their dogs. It was like a dog show, but better because it was non-judgmental and I got to pet a lot of them.
Then our food came out and things went from great to excellent.
Spicy Tuna Avocado Toast
I am not one to order avocado toast typically since that’s something I can easily make at home, but this is an exception. The bread is thick and crunch, the avocados ripe and creamy and the tuna piled high. It tastes so fresh and hearty that it’s almost underselling it to call it avocado toast. While we shared this, it can totally be a light meal for someone.
Breakfast Burrito
First off, let me say that splitting a burrito three ways is a bit challenging, but manageable. This breakfast burrito features FOUR eggs, peppers, onions and cheese. You can add meat or avocado if you wish — as you can see we had some avocado.
Typically I am a meat lover, but the four eggs is very sufficient in filling you up. I also really liked the added avocado because it added a density to the burrito. And apparently I love a dense burrito.
Acai Bowl
I’m a sucker for an entirely unhealthy acai bowl featuring chocolate chips, peanut butter, coconut flakes, etc. So truthfully, I wasn’t entirely excited about getting an acai bowl base with just the regular toppings.
And boy was I wrong to think that!
While this tasted markedly healthier than my beloved house bowl at The Put and Peel, it wasn’t at all obnoxiously healthy tasting. As in, it tasted really good but also made me feel like I might not actually be filling myself up with garbage.
Truly, I would go to North End a lot more if I knew I’d be able to sit after getting food and if there wasn’t typically a long line. It’s just so good I want them to open up another spot!
